3 Supportive Practices for Grieving

Heart Healing Tea

We will go through many losses in our lifetime — loss of a relationship, a beloved pet, a job, maybe a loved one died or you lost a life you once knew due to financial stresses or declining health.

How we move through these events depend on how we process grief, a natural response to major loss that can shake our core and leave us feeling sad, depressed, feeling lethargic, listless or lonely.

What I learned about my own healing process is that healing is an active process, done in the present where my bright future could be accessed again. At each step of the way, all I had to do was be here now.

3 Supportive Practices for Grieving

1) Receive the help from plants and nature. They’re here to support our wellbeing. Spend a lot of time in nature.  Even a simple herbal tea inspires us to be in the present and if we’re hyper aware, share messages of comfort.

2) Your self-care is important. Practice daily abhyanga, an act of self-nurturing with a warm oil massage. Keep life simple, including preparing 2-3 ingredient meals, and establishing yourself in a steady daily routine. Since grieving shakes us to our core, re-establish a routine to ground your energies calm your nervous system.

3) Talk to a caring friend who understands and listens to your story or seek outside support. Share you story as the energy is trying to get out and free itself. You can also write; this wakes up and releases emotions. Feel it and let the tears or anger express itself; you’re moving through the grief.
