Perspectives of Health

Perspectives of Health

from the Tibetan Book of Healing

“The World Health Organization has defined health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not mere absence of disease or infirmity.”

How we think, perceive and conceptualize influences our health, perhaps more than anything else.  In the Four Tantras , the fundamental canon of Tibetan medicine, health and wellness are defined by the following factors:

  • Freedom from serious psychological and physical disease

  • Adherence to a health plan based on your personality, your body type and needs, and your capacity to fulfill and meet those needs.

  • An understanding of the changing and impermanent nature of life and, within that understanding, the awareness of a purpose of life.

  • Acceptance of the stress and change found in relationships, the environment, the seasons and the aging process.

  • A sense of moral responsibility and a willingness to learn and grow.

  • A feeling of positive accomplishment, contentment, and appreciation for being human.
