Self-love through warm oil massage

it might seem like such a simple thing to do but it has so many benefits for your well-being. Just taking the time to pause and give yourself that kind of nourishment and touch is an act of self love.

Did you know that the act of anointing your body with warm oil is called snehana? And in Sanskrit means both oil and love. The oil on the body invites the same qualities as deeply loving yourself and loving another.

If the body is properly oiled with abhyanga daily, impurities cannot penetrate and disease cannot develop. Massaging your own body gives you body awareness, brings peace and calm before you start the day, strengthens tissues, improves skin elasticity and gives you an overall glow.

A daily abhyanga self oil massage practice is an integral part of an Ayurveda self-care ritual.

Choose the proper oil for you dosha and season in you’re in.

Here’s a general guideline: vata – sesame oil; pitta – coconut oil; kappa – sunflower and sesame oil blend

Keep the oil on the body for approximately 15 minutes then shower. During this time you can practice breathing exercises and slip into meditation.

 

The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to accidental injuries, or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.

Benefits of Abhyanga as stated by the ancient Ayurvedic text, Astanga Hridaya:
